Some companies deliberately seek out people who can speak multiple languages. By completing surveys in other languages, this increases a person's chances for larger and better incentives and more opportunities. Smile

can you give us some examples of this - I speak a smattering of French but always put that I can only speak English - is it possible for you to let us know how much your survey invitations have increased due to your bi-lingual abilities? I mean, is it really worthwhile?

Absolutely. It is very worthwhile if you can read and write enough to make your way through a survey. However, I only stick with languages that I am either fluent in and or have at least an intermediate understanding of and can both read and write. Some surveys only require that you know how to read and click on a question in that language, but some others require that you know how to read AND write the particular language. But, understand, it does depend on your country of origin or nationality and what kinds of companies you belong to. I can only speak for US based companies and a few that are internationally based.

Since I can do this with some companies, the number of surveys I receive are much higher compared with other companies that are looking for English speakers only. Global Test Market has sent me surveys in Spanish (quite a few), French (not a lot though), German ( they used to send me a few but have since ceased-I am not fluent in German, lol!), and a few other languages. For international users, Global Test Market is one of the more bi-lingual friendly sites. Survey Spot (Lots of surveys here too), Opinion Outpost ( I get tons of surveys from them in Spanish and English), Lightspeed, and many others are bi-lingual friendly, too.

As an example of incentives, I might get a survey from a certain survey company like Opinion Outpost and get paid 10-20 USD for doing the survey in Spanish, only then to be invited by the same company or another company to do the exact same survey in English and only get paid like 2-5 USD. So, I usually only complete the one with the higher pay-out. On the flip side though, I've also earned higher pay for being an English speaking person of Hispanic descent (Mexican and Spanish in my case-I'm also Caucasian) and less for speaking Spanish. So, it's a dual-edged sword. Another example is focus groups, I've participated in ones that paid very well for both English and Spanish. Although at times, I've found that I've earned more for doing it all in Spanish then I would have in English. This isn't always the norm though as one might earn equally in English or Spanish. It sounds like it is biased, but it really isn't because there are markets out there for both types of people in the American market.

What it really boils down to is what languages are most prominent for your demographics. In the US, Spanish is spoken almost as much as English, hence the increase of surveys from some companies for people who can speak/read/write the language. There are also panels for people of a specific heritage. I belong to another GMI Site that is for Hispanics only and they send me surveys in both Spanish and English. I get more from them then even Global Test Market! Smile

LOL! But, the average American is not bi-lingual unless they have a specific interest in a language, have relatives of a certain heritage who teach them the language, or learn by exposure. It's really a pity that it isn't a priority here like in other countries. Smile
