Paypal--Good or bad?

Postby jenlloyd2005 » Sat Oct 04, 2008 5:45 pm

Okay, I'm probably one of the few people who use the internet and do not have paypal, but I wanted to see what kind of experiences you guys have had with paypal in general? Good or bad. Also, I wanted to know if they charge anything or require a minimum balance... I know I can look on their site, but I'd rather ask people who have it. Thanks for all the help in advance!

i have had no problems with paypal. there is no min balance but there is limits on how much you can put and take into the account in a month without upgrading the account (like 500$ or something). i know that i get money from companies a lot faster using paypal rather than checks.

I can honestly say that I have never had any problems with PayPal. I find them to be a quick and efficient way to get my money. The one downside to it (for those worried about privacy or ID theft) is that you have to release your banking information and Social Security # (for Americans, anyway) so that they can deposit the funds directly into your account. The information is also released to the IRS, hence the SSN. But, I would still recommend them despite this one factor. It's up to you. :)

PAYPAL Re-EVAL

Postby franknme » Tue Dec 09, 2008 9:49 am

I used to be a staunch supporter, and when I heard horror stories, I assumed they were mostly from people who had large seller accounts and that as a casual user I would have no such problems. I have since become the wiser the hard way. Since ebay now owns PP, there really isn't much choice in the matter of joining if you buy or sell there, but I have some advice for those who are starting out, and some highlights for those who might not be aware. I am currently writing a summation of the biggest issues which I will post shortly.

I have been dealing with PayPal for over a month now, and I think they're great. Haven't had one problem or issue, and I was hesitant to sign up with them. I'm very glad I did.

I have been with PayPal for years now, from Canada - no problem - I guess the problems might start if you are a seller and get scammed or suspected in illegal transactions - there are countless stories of people getting their accouns frozen for no reason - but I have never experienced that, I only use PayPal to BUY and immediately deposit what I earn through survey sites. The only gripe about PayPal is that it requirse a MINIMUM to deposit to your bank, $15 MINIMUM otherwise you can't, that's the only gripe, otherwise it'sgood.

I have been with paypal a couple years now and find them to be one of the most efficient and customer friendly companies out there. Quick to resolve any problems you have.
One can have several e-mail addys attached to the account, think up to 7 but check to make sure.
I strongly urge you to apply and use it. You'll be glad you did.
No fees, No minimum balance, Quick deposits from companies.
And No, I do not work for them. But use them everyday.

I have Paypal, use it, and like it but have two pieces of advice.

1. Never give them your bank account number.

They say this is to verify you which is not true as there are many other ways to verify you. They use that info to take any amount of money out of your your bank account that they want. They could do it intentionally, accidentally, or if you sold a $5 item on ebay and the buyer files a complaint because he says he never got it. There are no laws regarding this. Once you give them your bank account number they are free to move money in and out as they please. How would you like all your checks for your bills to bounce because they accidentally removed all your funds?

2. Never leave more money in your Paypal account than you can afford to lose. The internet is filled with horror stories of people who have had their paypal accounts frozen for no reason.

P.S. You have to at least $10.00 in your PayPal account before you can transfer any funds into your own personal account.

AFAIK you only need to have $1 in your PayPal acct. I cash out all the time for less than $10.

I've only been using paypal for a couple of months but I love it. Like jellyfish said, you can cashout at $1.00. I have cashed out several times for amounts ranging from $1.00-$6.00. :D

I love Paypal

I've personally had no problems with paypal at all. There aren't any fees to join but they do charge a minimal fee when money is deposited into your paypal account. Its the fastest way to get your money online. I would definitely use paypal as a way of sending money rather than to pay western union or money gram to send money.

I've been with Paypal for years. Never had any trouble.

I wasn't happy when Ebay took over, but I still haven't had any problems.

PayPal seems to work well for people who use it for survey payments.

However, the eBay community forums are full of horror stories about 21-day holds, reversals, fees and overdrafts. Many sellers there hate PayPal with a passion.

I canceled my PayPal account a year and a half ago and haven't regretted it. All the survey sites I frequent offer Amazon gift cards. I have no further need for PayPal.
