Heck with surveys not paying any real money, I need to get job.I saw that Ann Taylor's was hiring so I put in a application and they called me back for a interview.I go in today. The hourly wage isn't the greatest but it has to beat what I make doing surveys.I was trying to wait for my husband to help me finish redo our bathrooms but after waiting over a year I cant do it anymore.I was also waiting for my 13 year old to be come a little more independent. I hate leaving her home alone while I'm at work but I gotta pay my bills. And then wouldn't ya you know on top of that I have plantar faciitis, but I'm gonna have to work thru the pain.Anyways wish me luck, lord knows I need it.

It might have been better if I hadn't been employed for myself in all that time.I mean it wasn't like I was jobless but working for family or like I said myself isnt going to help with references.Plus she asked how much I expected to earn? I said I hope 9 to 10 a hour. She said oh no,no, no it's more like minimum wage.Ugh.I make so much more then that when I clean but hey I need money so I'll give it a try. But really who can survive on minimum wage?Just cant find cleaning jobs right now plus a break from the norm would be nice.

But isn't the Prez pushing for a higher minimum wage? I have done the same job for 4 years, and I do a job no one else will do, and I just make over the projected minimum wage. Bet I don't get a raise when it goes up either. Footfree, the important thing is to get your foot in the door, in a manner of speaking. I had plantar faciitis, and that is a bugger to work with. Being on your feet might not help it much. I wish you well though. Just getting a paycheck is a great feeling. I work at a school so I will be looking for a job this summer. I hate leaving my daughter at home, but she is old enough now to fend for herself. It might be better for her to see how much I do for her. Your are right, the surveys don't pay.

Thanks for the pep talk.I got the job it does pay a little over minimum but just over.Anyways I wanted to give it a try. I also wanted to teach my daughter that if we don't put ourselves there then there is no one to blame but ourselves. As for my daughter I trust her it's her it's her friends she hangs out with that make it stressful for me to leave her home plus her better judgement goes out the window .My husband is going to put cameras up in the house to make sure no funny business is going on.Plus my hubby went and bought me some Clark's Waves today. They are suppose to be good to stand in for long time kinda like orthic's.I've been cleaning homes for over 20 years and get paid $25 plus a hour. It's just that I don't have enough jobs and I'm finding it hard to find new clients. So if you want a job where you are your own boss and know people who want their house cleaned I would suggest doing that.Good luck with your job hunt this summer!

Good luck on your new job. If you are anything like me you can overcome all obstacles. I was recently hired by Xerox as well.

Hi- I realize that this post is almost a year old, b ut I just noticed it a few minutes ago for the first time. Are you still working for Ann Taylor? If you are still looking for housekeeping jobs, you might try craigslist, or care.com. I do respite care for seniors and kids with special needs, and I used to find some jobs on craigslist, but most of the listings are for babysitters looking for jobs. I also am signed up with care.com and sittercity.com. I just checked with both of those sites to see if there were any new jobs for me, and I noticed that care.com has a section for housekeeping jobs. When I entered in my zip code and 10 miles, I came up with 15 housekeeping jobs. I am in the Chicago area, and so jobs are going to be more plentiful than they are in Green Bay, Wisconsin, but there is less competition in the more rural areas for jobs too. You can also post there that you are looking for housekeeping jobs. I have gotten two long term jobs on sittercity.com, and I have one part time job that is hopefully going to start soon that I found on care.com. I used to have better luck on sittercity, but lately there have been more jobs on care.com. Sittercity does not have a housekeeping section, but care.com does. Care.com also has jobs for people that are willing to do errands and go grocery shopping, and for people that are willing to do pet care. Sittercity has pet care jobs. It is free for you to open up an account at either site. The families do have to pay a fee though. They do strongly advise you to get a background check though. A basic background check only costs you $10-$15. At both sites you have to watch out for scammers. Two different people tried to scam me on sittercity.com in the last year. In the scams, the person offers to pay you way more than most people do, and the person is relocating to your area. One of the scams when they emailed me, and I googled the phone number they gave to call them back, it was a female escort service. Hope this helps, Nancy
