Most survey sites don't ask for ss# or even a home address, just email, how would the irs know if you made over 600 dollars?

Most survey sites will ask you for a ssn if you do make over 600 dollars with that one site, so they'll know at that point. If you make 500 dollars with a dozen different companies, though, they will not, any more than the cops will know if you're driving around with a bunch of crack in your trunk, which is say, they aren't going to rummage around in your trunk for no reason, but if they happen to open your trunk for some other reason (in this analogy, opening your trunk is a tax audit), and they look through your bank records and see a bunch of money unaccounted for, that's the point where you're pretty much boned. (Though the chances of getting an audit are, admittedly, small, if you aren't raising other bigger red flags. Doesn't make it any less against the law, of course, any less than driving around with a bunch of narcotics in your trunk that you're pretty sure nobody will notice is.)

I've only hit $600 on OneOpinion and when that happens, a message pops up that tells you you can't cash out any more unless you provide them with your tax information.  You can also just wait until the new year if you don't want to provide it.  That said, you're legally supposed to be reporting any amount you receive as income on your taxes, even if it's under $600.
