Is Survey Taking Considered A Job?

I'm interested in everyone's thoughts on this topic...Is survey taking considered a job? I myself do this part time to make a few extra dollars but I know some out there consider this a full time gig..my question to that is when & if you at some point decide to say apply for a job at an actual company what do you put on the application when it comes time when they ask where you work? Same goes for when say applying or renewing a passport or maybe trying to buy a car or house & they want to know your income & what you do for work...What is the title that you would put down on the application? Is this something like "Professional Survey Taker" or would you be more likely to put something fancy like say "Data Entry Specialist"?? I'm wondering what everyone thinks about this topic & what you would do if you had to apply for a new job or get that passport...

It this is a job, I cannot see making enough money to support myself. I would consider it like using coupons at the grocery store where I save a little. Years ago, I did keep track of my coupon savings and put the money aside for gifts. I will be interested in other opinions.

Self employment, maybe. I wouldn't consider it a job because you have no boss.

I don't consider it a job. It is the way I can make a little extra money for a few frills in life that I could not otherwise afford.

I don't consider survey taking to be considered a job.  It is only a way for me to get Amazon GC to be able to afford things I would not be able to otherwise.  I have never made $600 from any of the survey companies in one year, and so I am not obligated to declare it on my income taxes.  I don't know if you would have to declare $1,000 worth of Amazon GC on your income taxes anyway.  If you combine all of the Amazon GC I get, I don't think it totals more than $600 anyway in one year.  I did do a market research panel though in 2023 that paid me $175 in Visa GC, and I just deposited it in my Amazon account.  Most of the people who make $5,000 a year doing surveys are probably cheating anyway.

Would never consider it as a job since there really is no way to make a living doing it. I never make more that $400 in a year. When I was working , my last job paid $400 a week. Survey compensation is pocket change at best.

I'd call it a profitable and sometimes painful hobby.

Good answer.

I refer to it as supplemental income, not a job per se, as I don't see how you can make a living by taking surveys. It's more in the category of gigs and side hustles. I suppose you could call it being a paid "influencer".

I am retired and get social security so I have to supplement it with something. I do some stuff for extra money but doing surveys really helps. I tally at the end of a good day and sometimes it will hit 25-30 dollars but I am on this thing a LOT! Even while the tv is on. Weekends are so slow though and I may make 6-10 dollars a day, sometimes not even that. So my answer is that for me, I look at it as a job. If I get a phone call, my friends know I am working and don't want a survey to time out which it will do if I take a break in the middle.

I would say $25.00 is a great day so is $6.00.  I am also retired but do not make that amount. Good for you.

I made a grand total of $.20 yesterday.  I had a survey from YouGov, and one from fortright that I did not get around to doing though.

If you do Prolific, you can make the same. They pay really well and you don't get disqualified. Same with Cloud Connect. They're in a whole different league Tham the other companies.

I won't join Prolific because after waiting 6 months for an invite they would only allow me to join by giving them my drivers license. I didn't feel safe doing that so I can't be a member..

I looked into Cloud Connect Research and I may give them.a try. Thank You
